What is a first aid kit?

A first aid kit is a collection of supplies and equipment for use in giving first aid. A first aid kit can either be put together by an individual or you can purchase a complete kit.

You can buy a variety of first aid kits including family first aid kits for the home, and miniature first aid kits, which are great for keeping in the car or on your person.

Why should you have a first aid kit?

Having a first aid kit is very important so that you can deal with minor accidents and injuries at home or if you are out. Having a first aid kit at home is important, however if you have young children it is essential that you always have a first aid kit so that you can deal with any accidents or injuries that occur, so why not put one in the boot of the car?

What should you have in your first aid kit?

Your first aid kit should consist of the following items:

- Primary care leaflet
- Antiseptic cream or spray
- Skin rash cream
- Scissors
- Tweezers
- Vinyl gloves
- Forehead thermometer
- Micropore tape
- Low adherent dressing
- Fabric dressing strips
- Would closure strips
- Gauze swabs
- Plasters (In a variety of sizes and shapes)
- Woven bandage
- Triangular bandage
- Crepe rolled bandages
- Safety pins
- Burn gel
- Eye wash
- Sterile eye dressing
- Painkillers (Paracetamol or Aspirin)
- Antihistamine tablets
